Are string silencers really needed on a crossbow to hunt whitetail deer?

I am new to archery hunting and just recieved a handycap permit to hunt with a crossbow.Do I need to use String Silencers to hunt whitetail deer,or does it shoot fast enought that i don’t need them.

    I assume you’ll perhaps be hunting from a stand of some sort, in which case you’ll be fairly close to the game. At short distances, I don’t believe you’ll benefit from them enough to make them necessary.

    Believe it or not, the deer can react fast enough after releasing the string as to miss a clean kill and wound or to miss totally. String silencers are recommended for the serious hunter. Good Luck! ;-}

    though deer have extremely fast reaction time a crossbow will travel fast enough that string silencers wouldn’t be necessary. at any distance the bolt would probably hit the deer at the same time as it heard the noise. but if you feel the need for them they’re not going to hurt a thing. good luck

    String silencers are marketing tools used to dupe those incapable of shooting deer up close. Get close, and that mutha fucka wont have time to jump till way after he is dead.

    Of course, if you really suck at getting close silencers would help. But, at that point why not just use a gun.

    Also, a crossbow shoots much faster than a regular compound bow as it generally has a much heavier draw weight.

    you dont need string silencers but crossbows are noisey even with limb savers on mine.But I have not needed any just take time and wait for a good shot.
    Watch for the deers reactions “tensing” an alert deer will react so much more than a calm deer.Become accurate with the bow and learn to wait for the best shot only!Good luck!

    You don’t need them. Only at longer distances would they have enough reaction time to react. but at that range you would have to have the LOUDEST string made and even then you may to amplify it.
